Classes and Workshops

Gill Elliott specialises in running classes for all levels from beginners to advanced in ten-week blocks which she has been doing now since 1999. Programmes are designed for each individual to enable them to develop their confidence and style in their chosen areas of photography. Classes are conducted in an informal and supportive atmosphere with the emphasis always being on the sheer pleasure of expressing ideas in a visual medium. Photography sessions can be bought as gift vouchers for friends and family by getting in touch via our contact page.

Introductory Classes

10 two-hour sessions: £375

These are taught in ten-week blocks. Learn about the controls & settings on your cameras so you can begin to take stronger and creative photographs consistently. You will learn how settings can be changed and manipulated to give your images great colour control, depth of field and composition. You will become skilled in metering in a way to give great detail from shadows to highlights. You will also learn about file storing, sizing and exporting for web and print. The only maths involved is your two times table so don’t be intimidated!

New Approaches

10 two-hour sessions: £375

These too are taught in ten week blocks but you develop your photographic and technical skills through working in one or two areas of photography which you like to work in. Different metering techniques are explored to create different effects and the use of filters, multiple exposures and painting with light are just a few of the effects you can learn to produce in your camera. Through detailed critiques you will begin to develop your own photographic style, approach and lighting effects.

Specialist Workshops

Half-day workshop: £195 • Full-day workshop: £395

These are half day/day/weekend workshops tutored by Gill to give you more in-depth understanding and practice. The school offers macro, portrait, movement, landscape and nature photography sessions — both in studio and on location throughout the South West. The latter two workshops are co-tutored by professional photographer Richard Austin. Workshops on colour management, Lightroom and editing are also regularly taught. All workshops have full critique and plenary sessions to review and assess your progress.

As with all of Gill’s photographic sessions, be prepared to get practical, have fun and bring along all your creative energy!
